October 2025 Meeting

In March of 2025 three Todd Bird Club members – Gloria Lamer and Roger and Margaret Higbee -- went on another Hillstar Nature tour, this time to Panama. The tour was led by PSO member and friend Holly Merker and a fantastic local birder Domi Alveo. Holly took detailed notes throughout the trip which resulted in an amazing trip report which she shared with all the participants. The group birded from the Panama Canal at sea level to the cloud forest at nearly 7,000 feet. We experienced a 6.2 magnitude earthquake, took a night hike in the mountains where we got two life birds (not owls), braved the six-mile four- wheel-drive-only access road during our transfer to Mount Totumas, and experienced unusual security at the Panama airport. We saw toucans, tanagers, hummingbirds, flycatchers, Resplendent Quetsals, and the most interesting Three-wattled Bellbird for a group total of 313 species.
