September 2012 Meeting

Speaker: Derek Clawson, IUP Biology Major

Description

Derek Clawson, a senior at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, is majoring in biology. He has worked under Dr. Jeffrey Larkin researching Golden-winged Warblers in Sproul State Forest and Bald Eagle State Park. He has additionally gained experience banding and removing birds from mist nets at the Powdermill Nature Reserve over a number of visits to their facilities. He is an active member of the Todd Bird Club, having joined during the late spring of 2012 with his wife Emily.

He will be presenting a program on September 4 about his trip to South Africa and the many exciting birds and other wildlife he encountered during his stay. The program will detail the three week tour of various areas of South Africa including the famous Kruger National Park, Mapunguwbe National Park, St. Lucia, Cape Town, and Hlane Royal Game Reserve in Swaziland.
